[Spring Concert] Destination: Reaching for the Stars (2022)
March 25, 2022 @ 7:00 pm
(Full Band)
It’s that time of year again. The Downriver Community Band (DCB) will have our annual spring concert on Friday, March 25 at 7 pm.
This year’s concert theme is “Destination: Reaching for the Stars”. Join us while we play an assortment of music associated with your favorite stars from popular movies and movie franchisees.
DCB is honored to feature pianist Linda Lukens playing “Rhapsody in Blue”. “Rhapsody in Blue” is a 1924 musical composition by American composer George Gershwin for solo piano and jazz band. The piece combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects. Some of you may recognize it as one of the segments in “Disney’s” Fantasia 2000.
Ms. Lukens obtained her bachelor’s degree in music education from Illinois State University.
She is well-known in the area, having accompanied the Dearborn choir and theater programs; Detroit instrumental, vocal, and theater performances; Oakland Community College’s Masters Chorale; as well as numerous area churches and schools. She is also a popular recital accompanist with vocal students at Madonna University, and regularly performs with Dearborn’s West Side Theater Productions.
In 2012, Ms. Lukens received the Dearborn Community Arts Council Mayor’s Award for Artist/Performer.
As a special treat, we are featuring some Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center (DYPAC) vocalists to enhance the concert. You may even be able to see some of them performing while in costume. 🙂
We hope you are inspired to come and support the fine talent the Downriver area has to offer. We encourage adults and children to come in costume, participate in the parade of costumes, and be entered into a drawing to win a door prize for wearing it.
