Our Conductor
Martin L. Miles comes to the Downriver Community Band with over 30 years of experience as music director in public school programs in Michigan and Missouri. His ensembles have received numerous first division ratings at the state level as well as top honors in adjudicated performances at national festival events.
Martin has had the privilege of commissioning a work for wind band by nationally acclaimed composer Todd B. Levin and had the honor of conducting the first high school ensemble in the nation to accompany trumpet virtuoso and co-founder of the Empire Brass, Rolf Smedvig.
Martin received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in music education from Michigan State University and has studied advanced conducting techniques with Gene Corporon and H. Robert Reynolds. Martin plays the saxophone, piano, and drums.
